FutureB-
Grand theft in pick No. 231: the Vikings steal Velling and grade out a B. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Vikings were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Velling pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Jagusah reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In the 18th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick50
Rnd2
Makhi Hughes
Makhi Hughes in slot 50 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keon Sabb at the 87th pick is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick97
Rnd3
Charles Jagusah
They went early on Charles Jagusah in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick118
Rnd4
Roderick Kearney
They paid sticker price for Roderick Kearney in No. 118, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick157
Rnd5
Dane Key
A tidy little value on Dane Key in Round 5, Pick 19, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Noah Fifita
Noah Fifita at the 173rd overall pick is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick196
Rnd6
Hykeem Williams
Good price on Hykeem Williams in the 196th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick208
Rnd6
Elliot Washington II
Elliot Washington II slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jack Velling
Jack Velling at Round 7, Pick 15 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
