Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Dolphins, and a B- to prove it.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Dolphins took Hayden Conner at No. 231, roughly 40 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Winston Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and linebacker still on the board. Landing Watts that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In pick No. 20 they get a disruptive interior force. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick48 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A straight-up fair deal on Alfred Collins at No. 48, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Watts at Round 2, Pick 19 is the proof. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick98 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Kevin Winston Jr. in the Round 3 slot leaves edge rusher and linebacker for later.
Pick116 Rnd4 Kyle McCord
They paid sticker price for Kyle McCord in slot 116, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams in the 135th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick150 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
No edge and no loss on O'Donnell Fortune in the 150th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick155 Rnd5 Raheim Sanders
They talked themselves into Raheim Sanders at pick No. 155, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at No. 224 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick231 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
They reached into another round for Hayden Conner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
A wild overpay on Torricelli Simpkins III in slot 253, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
