Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Dolphins did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 36 spots for Hayden Conner, and value like that does not grow back.

The Dolphins indulged a want in Moore while a need in wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots stayed open. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In pick No. 13 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
They took Alfred Collins at par in pick 48, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
No drama and no debate, Kevin Winston Jr. went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick116 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
A surprising call. With wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent No. 116 on Malachi Moore, a safety they were not short of.
Pick135 Rnd4 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in slot 135 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick150 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton in Round 5, Pick 12 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick155 Rnd5 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in the 155th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at pick 224 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick231 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
They reached into another round for Hayden Conner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick253 Rnd7 Brady Cook
Brady Cook at pick No. 253 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
