Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Packers let Mondon Jr. fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Call it larceny. Smael Mondon Jr. sat on the board until pick 239, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They are betting Covington proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Shavon Revel Jr.
In pick 23 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick54 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at the 54th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick96 Rnd3 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A wild overpay on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in slot 96, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick123 Rnd4 Kurtis Rourke
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kurtis Rourke in No. 123, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jake Majors
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick162 Rnd5 CJ West
A swing that ignored the value entirely, CJ West well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick166 Rnd5 Barrett Carter
They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at the Round 5 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick200 Rnd6 Devin Neal
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 200 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick239 Rnd7 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 239 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick251 Rnd7 Jacobe Covington
Jacobe Covington at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
