Nobody had Donovan Smith this high, and it is not close. The Browns reached 261 spots to get him at pick No. 7. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They have staked the next five years on Donovan Smith, which is the only story that really matters here.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. However the rest shakes out, Martinez at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
