Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C
ValueF NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
The Steelers landed square in the muddy middle: C.

The tape said wait; the Steelers did not. Ethan Onianwa went at the 21st overall pick, a good 297 picks before the board was ready.

Concepcion falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ethan Onianwa
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ethan Onianwa. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick53 Rnd2 Isaiah Nwokobia
They reached a country mile for Isaiah Nwokobia at the 53rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Deion Burks
A big swing on Deion Burks at the 76th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick85 Rnd3 Raul Aguirre Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Raul Aguirre Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick110 Rnd4 KC Concepcion
KC Concepcion in Round 4, Pick 10 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121 Rnd4 Kage Casey
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 121 on Kage Casey with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
Pick135 Rnd4 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in Round 4, Pick 35 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick159 Rnd5 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at pick 159 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick195 Rnd6 Matthew Sluka
Matthew Sluka at the 195th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick213 Rnd6 Domani Jackson
You do not let a cornerback like Domani Jackson reach the 213th pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick214 Rnd6 Raylen Wilson
They barely believed it either: Raylen Wilson still on the board at pick No. 214. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
The board fumbled Diego Pavia all the way to No. 224, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
