Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Dolphins bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Dolphins spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

They will need Jagusah to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Getting McKinney where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
A straight-up fair deal on Fernando Mendoza at slot 11, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Quincy Rhodes Jr.
No drama and no debate, Quincy Rhodes Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 43. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the 75th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick78 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
They liked Brian Parker II enough to skip the value, taking him in the 78th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick95 Rnd3 Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah at Round 3, Pick 31 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick111 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds at No. 111 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick151 Rnd5 DJ McKinney
Circle this one: DJ McKinney at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick225 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at pick 225 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
