Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureC-
The Dolphins kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Trey Moore; the Dolphins did not wait, grabbing him 35 spots ahead at No. 149.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Dolphins indulged a want in Thomas while a need in interior defensive lineman and linebacker stayed open. Getting Rutledge where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
In pick No. 11 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at the Round 2 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
A real head-scratcher, Daylen Everette in pick 75 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick87 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields at Round 3, Pick 23 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick90 Rnd3 Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen at the 90th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick98 Rnd3 Bishop Fitzgerald
They paid up for Bishop Fitzgerald at the 98th pick when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jakobe Thomas
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jakobe Thomas adds a safety and leaves interior defensive lineman and linebacker untouched.
Pick138 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
Nice patience on Keylan Rutledge, who had no business lasting to No. 138. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149 Rnd5 Trey Moore
Trey Moore at pick No. 149 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick250 Rnd7 Haynes King
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 34, with Haynes King worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Will Kacmarek
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Will Kacmarek in the 256th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
