Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureC+
Good, not great, for the Dolphins: B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Derrick Moore at slot 112. The Dolphins jumped the board by 41 and dared it to prove them wrong. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

However the rest shakes out, Robertson at that price is a win they earned. Spending an early pick on safety with tight end and linebacker open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick46 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
A straight-up fair deal on Olaivavega Ioane at pick No. 46, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick77 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Omar Cooper Jr. a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick85 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley slipping to pick 85 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick86 Rnd3 Earl Little Jr.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Earl Little Jr. adds a safety and leaves tight end and linebacker untouched.
Pick112 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
This one needs a full-page explanation: Derrick Moore in the Round 4 slot, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick137 Rnd4 Jadarian Price
No drama and no debate, Jadarian Price went about where he belonged in the 137th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
A big swing on Aaron Graves at slot 154, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227 Rnd7 Sawyer Robertson
Circle this one: Sawyer Robertson at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
