Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureB+
The Steelers found their guy under center in Manning: B+.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Steelers spent their marquee pick on Arch Manning, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

They are betting Velling proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Sarratt pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Arch Manning
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick46 Rnd2 Makai Lemon
They robbed the room for Makai Lemon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick50 Rnd2 Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad at Round 2, Pick 18 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick64 Rnd2 Gennings Dunker
Good price on Gennings Dunker in pick No. 64, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick73 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
No edge and no loss on Michael Taaffe in the 73rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick78 Rnd3 Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in slot 78 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick96 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
They let Sonny Styles come to them and pounced at No. 96. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick98 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
A tidy bit of business in the 98th overall pick, where Malachi Fields graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick114 Rnd4 Chandler Rivers
Chandler Rivers at pick No. 114 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick120 Rnd4 Roderick Kearney
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Roderick Kearney at offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman open.
Pick125 Rnd4 Isaiah Nwokobia
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Isaiah Nwokobia at the 125th overall pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jyaire Hill
Jyaire Hill at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick153 Rnd5 Samuel Omosigho
Nothing to complain about; Samuel Omosigho went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick176 Rnd5 Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills in the 176th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick192 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss at pick 192 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick203 Rnd6 Kelby Collins
Kelby Collins in slot 203 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick208 Rnd6 Lawson Luckie
A real head-scratcher, Lawson Luckie in slot 208 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jack Velling
Jack Velling at No. 211 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jordan White
They went early on Jordan White in Round 7, Pick 11, and the value did not follow. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick231 Rnd7 Jeremiah Cobb
Jeremiah Cobb in the 231st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
