Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers let Beck fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Carson Beck tumbling to the Steelers in slot 99 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

It is not that Green is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In pick 30 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick76 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
They did well to land Michael Taaffe in the 76th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Cayden Green
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 30. Interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Cayden Green did not.
Pick99 Rnd3 Carson Beck
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Carson Beck in No. 99, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick130 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
Somehow D'Angelo Ponds was still sitting there in the 130th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick133 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots to take Ar'maj Reed-Adams, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Value with a capital V on Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 171, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick179 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jermaine Mathews Jr. in slot 179. The roster fit checks out.
Pick210 Rnd6 DJ Harvey
DJ Harvey in pick No. 210 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick216 Rnd6 DeAndre Moore Jr.
DeAndre Moore Jr. at Round 6, Pick 36 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick247 Rnd7 Brett Norfleet
By-the-book stuff, Brett Norfleet at the 247th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
