Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueF NeedA- TradesC FutureB-
The 49ers have some explaining to do: D.

The Keon Wylie pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 364 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Aamil Wagner
In the 26th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57 Rnd2 Makhi Hughes
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Makhi Hughes well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick134 Rnd4 Keon Wylie
Keon Wylie in slot 134 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139 Rnd4 Bray Hubbard
No edge and no loss on Bray Hubbard in Round 4, Pick 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick140 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
