Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Buccaneers: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Buccaneers did exactly that with Kam Franklin in pick 153. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Brahmer to cover a lot of smaller sins. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Suntarine Perkins
In slot 15 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick46 Rnd2 Chris Peal
Chris Peal in pick No. 46 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77 Rnd3 Bear Alexander
A straight-up fair deal on Bear Alexander at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick116 Rnd4 Jordan Marshall
They paid up for Jordan Marshall at pick 116 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick153 Rnd5 Kam Franklin
A big swing on Kam Franklin at Round 5, Pick 15, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick193 Rnd6 Benjamin Brahmer
A tidy bit of business in No. 193, where Benjamin Brahmer graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick229 Rnd7 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin in Round 7, Pick 13 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
