Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesD FutureC
Quarterback settled, Mestemaker in the fold, and a C+ for the Commanders.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drew Mestemaker to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

The Matthews reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That Johnson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

If Drew Mestemaker and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Drew Mestemaker
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick66 Rnd3 Mike Matthews
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mike Matthews well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick145 Rnd5 A.J. Harris
A cornerback of that caliber at the 145th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick185 Rnd6 Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet in No. 185 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick196 Rnd6 Tao Johnson
Tao Johnson at Round 6, Pick 17 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick223 Rnd7 Elinneus Davis
Elinneus Davis at slot 223 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
