Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent pick No. 222 on Isaac TeSlaa, a name the board had a full 170 spots lower.

Stutsman falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.

The Patriots indulged a want in Schwesinger while a need in quarterback stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In No. 23 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
A wild overpay on Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick 38, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick45 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
They will replay Colston Loveland at slot 45 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick51 Rnd2 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at the 51st pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Watts at pick No. 69 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick77 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
They barely believed it either: Isaiah Bond still on the board at the 77th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick105 Rnd4 Demetrius Knight Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Demetrius Knight Jr. reach Round 4, Pick 4 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick128 Rnd4 Carson Schwesinger
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 128th overall pick on Carson Schwesinger with quarterback unsolved.
Pick136 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in pick No. 136 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at No. 145 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick176 Rnd6 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick208 Rnd6 Cody Simon
The board fumbled Cody Simon all the way to slot 208, and they scooped it up. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick219 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hayden Conner in the 219th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick222 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaac TeSlaa well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell at the 239th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick240 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
Somehow Trevor Etienne was still sitting there in the 240th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick251 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 35 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
