Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Fitzgerald: B+.

You could see the war room lean forward. Ryan Fitzgerald at slot 233 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Johnson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tre Harris
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tre Harris in slot 39. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
They jumped the gun on Tate Ratledge, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72 Rnd3 Harold Fannin Jr.
They will replay Harold Fannin Jr. at pick No. 72 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tez Johnson
Value said wait; Tez Johnson in the 76th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jaeden Roberts
They paid a round early for Jaeden Roberts in No. 147, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick168 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Cam Skattebo in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick193 Rnd6 Jack Kiser
No edge and no loss on Jack Kiser in the 193rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick233 Rnd7 Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick240 Rnd7 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in the 240th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
