Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC+ FutureA+
The Patriots let Moore fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Malachi Moore, pick No. 217, roughly 130 picks past where he belonged. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will need Trapilo to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Grey Zabel
In No. 20 they get an anchor for the offensive line, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Value said wait; Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick No. 38 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick44 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick51 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Circle this one: Omarion Hampton at Round 2, Pick 19 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick69 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They reached into another round for Ozzy Trapilo, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick77 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Carson Schwesinger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tate Ratledge
Somehow Tate Ratledge was still sitting there in slot 104, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Taking Jake Majors in the 139th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cobee Bryant in Round 5, Pick 6, miles early. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick186 Rnd6 Cody Simon
Cody Simon in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick189 Rnd6 CJ West
They talked themselves into CJ West at pick 189, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick217 Rnd7 Malachi Moore
A safety of that caliber at the 217th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They liked Jackson Hawes enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 220. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238 Rnd7 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey in slot 238 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
