Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent slot 238 on Jonathan Mendoza, a name the board had a full 115 spots lower.

On value alone, Ransom makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
