Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesC FutureA
Grand theft in the 217th pick: the Patriots steal Harvey and grade out a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. RJ Harvey tumbling to the Patriots in pick 217 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Bryant reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Mike Green
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Value said wait; Donovan Ezeiruaku in Round 2, Pick 6 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick53 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in pick 53 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick69 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ozzy Trapilo in slot 69, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jack Bech
Jack Bech at No. 77 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tate Ratledge at pick No. 84. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick115 Rnd4 Carson Schwesinger
Taking Carson Schwesinger in the 115th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick143 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in the 143rd overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick150 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
Circle this one: Lathan Ransom at pick 150 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick217 Rnd7 RJ Harvey
Somehow RJ Harvey was still sitting there in the 217th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at No. 220 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
