The Cowboys found their guy under center in Milroe: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Cowboys spent their marquee pick on Jalen Milroe, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

That Higgins pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They are betting Roberts proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at pick 16 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick47 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker slid further than he should have, and slot 47 is lovely value for the edge rusher. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick78 Rnd3 Ollie Gordon II
They went early on Ollie Gordon II in the 78th overall pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jaeden Roberts
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaeden Roberts in pick No. 117, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick153 Rnd5 LT Overton
A reach on LT Overton in Round 5, Pick 15; the board had better options right there. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jayden Higgins
They barely believed it either: Jayden Higgins still on the board at the Round 5 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick170 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens in the 170th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
Value with a capital V on Xavier Nwankpa in No. 171, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick189 Rnd6 Quinn Carroll
A conviction pick on Quinn Carroll at the 189th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick208 Rnd6 Gentry Williams
They paid sticker price for Gentry Williams in slot 208, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
