FutureC-
The Chiefs let Oliver fall into their laps, and walked away with a C+. Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Collin Oliver, the No. 108 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
McCoy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Emery Jones
Good price on Emery Jones in the 40th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick56
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Value with a capital V on Tre Harris in slot 56, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at the Round 2 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70
Rnd3
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in Round 3, Pick 6 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jabbar Muhammad
The board fumbled Jabbar Muhammad all the way to pick No. 72, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick88
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
A straight-up fair deal on Shemar Turner at the 88th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick90
Rnd3
Dani Dennis-Sutton
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick 90 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick102
Rnd4
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III in No. 102 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Ajani Cornelius
You do not let an offensive lineman like Ajani Cornelius reach pick No. 117 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Somehow Malachi Moore was still sitting there in No. 122, and they pounced on premier safety value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick136
Rnd5
Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jake Briningstool
They will replay Jake Briningstool at the 154th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick193
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
They barely believed it either: Roman Hemby still on the board at the 193rd pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick200
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
They robbed the room for Xavier Truss here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick218
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
Taking Collin Oliver in slot 218 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
