The Chiefs let Mahlman fall and pounced. Final grade: D.

Somebody in No. 193 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Riley Mahlman, the No. 124 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

In the 21st pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick32 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In the 32nd overall pick they get a problem off the edge, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.

Nothing to complain about; Tate Ratledge went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

They let Ajani Cornelius come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.

They will replay Kenneth Grant at pick No. 85 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.

Dasan McCullough at Round 3, Pick 32 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick107 Rnd4 Sonny Styles
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at No. 107. It adds depth where they could use a little.

Steal is underselling it; Nic Anderson at pick 128 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

Bryson Nesbit slid further than he should have, and pick No. 160 is lovely value for the tight end. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

The board fumbled Riley Mahlman all the way to pick 193, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
