jpalmer1 DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans let Sampson fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Dylan Sampson had no business being available in the 89th overall pick, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They are betting Booker proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Booker
In No. 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
Fair-plus on TreVeyon Henderson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jack Bech
The board had Jack Bech higher than pick No. 79, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in pick 89 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick166
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ty Robinson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone at slot 236 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick241
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
They paid a round early for Ty Hamilton in the Round 7 slot, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
