Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB- TradesD FutureB-
The jury is out on the Patriots. For now, C+.

The tape said wait; the Patriots did not. Jahfari Harvey went at pick No. 238, a good 243 picks before the board was ready. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

Taylor falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Travis Hunter
In pick No. 4 they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
They liked Aireontae Ersery enough to skip the value, taking him in the 38th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jack Bech
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jack Bech. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They jumped the gun on Ozzy Trapilo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104 Rnd4 Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick143 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
Taking Lathan Ransom in slot 143 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick169 Rnd5 Mason Taylor
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Mason Taylor in the 169th pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick172 Rnd5 Chris Paul Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Chris Paul Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick202 Rnd6 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at pick No. 202 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick217 Rnd7 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey in the 217th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
You do not let a linebacker like Jack Kiser reach Round 7, Pick 4 and blink. They did not. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jahfari Harvey
They reached into another round for Jahfari Harvey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
