Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bills won the night they stopped Alexander from sliding. Grade: B-. Thirty-one other rooms let Zy Alexander slide, and the Bills were the ones holding the card at pick 120. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while linebacker, quarterback and other spots went begging. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Peebles left real value on the table behind him.
On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Mike Green
In pick No. 30 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A real need, handled.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at pick 56 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick63
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
A conviction pick on Maxwell Hairston at the 63rd overall pick that the board grades a round light. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick109
Rnd4
David Walker
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on David Walker. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
A surprising call. With linebacker, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 18 on Zy Alexander, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick132
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
They went early on Aeneas Peebles in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick170
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
They took Kyle Williams at par in No. 170, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
They paid sticker price for JJ Pegues in slot 177, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick206
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at No. 206 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
