Taaffe should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Michael Taaffe at the Round 3 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Payton reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Bears indulged a want in Fitzgerald while a need in running back, cornerback and other spots stayed open.

They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
