FutureA
Larceny in pick 233 lands the Bears a B, Reed and all. The Bears did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jaylen Reed fell into slot 233. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In pick 25 they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick41
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in slot 41 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in the 72nd pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick79
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 79 with a little surplus value in Elijah Arroyo. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick148
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Value with a capital V on Malachi Moore in Round 5, Pick 10, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jaylen Reed
They barely believed it either: Jaylen Reed still on the board at No. 233. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick240
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone at the 240th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
