FutureB-
A passer of the future in Ward, and a B-, for the Giants. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Cam Ward is the Giants' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Ivey at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Buchanan proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Josh Conerly Jr. at the 34th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick65
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
The board had Azareye'h Thomas higher than the 65th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Somehow Isaiah Bond was still sitting there in slot 99, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jared Ivey
Circle this one: Jared Ivey at No. 105 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick174
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 174 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick211
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
The board had cheaper options than Howard Cross III at Round 6, Pick 35, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick219
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
They will replay Tahj Brooks at pick 219 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick239
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They jumped the gun on Teddye Buchanan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick246
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
A premium they did not need to pay, Tonka Hemingway a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
