Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Jalen Milroe; the Steelers did not wait, grabbing him 28 spots ahead at No. 66.

For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a disruptive interior force, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick66 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick83 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams slid further than he should have, and pick No. 83 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick101 Rnd3 Tai Felton
Tai Felton in the 101st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Darius Alexander at the 103rd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick114 Rnd4 Xavier Restrepo
They let Xavier Restrepo come to them and pounced at slot 114. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick135 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick157 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
This one needs a full-page explanation: JJ Pegues in Round 5, Pick 19, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick196 Rnd6 Antwane Wells Jr.
No edge and no loss on Antwane Wells Jr. in No. 196; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
