Dubie DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+

FutureB
The Bears checked most of the boxes and earned a B. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but J.J. Weaver at No. 242 is 132 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
However the rest shakes out, Huzzie at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 14 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Booker at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick45
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in pick 45, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick49
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders at the 49th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch in the 72nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick118
Rnd4
Tory Horton
Tory Horton at pick No. 118 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
They let Jay Higgins come to them and pounced at pick 149. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick197
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
Nothing to complain about; Luke Lachey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick234
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Garrett Dellinger well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick235
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
Circle this one: Alijah Huzzie at slot 235 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick242
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at the 242nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
