Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesC- FutureB-
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Tuten: C+.

You could see the war room lean forward. Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 190 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.

They will need Reed to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The Cordell Volson deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.

So much rides on Tetairoa McMillan that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 17 they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
They took Aireontae Ersery at par in the 44th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick49 Rnd2 Kyle Kennard
A wild overpay on Kyle Kennard in No. 49, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick57 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
A big swing on Donovan Jackson at pick No. 57, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76 Rnd3 Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas at Round 3, Pick 12 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick150 Rnd5 Jaylen Reed
They talked themselves into Jaylen Reed at the 150th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick170 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick172 Rnd5 Damien Martinez
Taking Damien Martinez in slot 172 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick174 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid sticker price for Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 174, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick190 Rnd6 Bhayshul Tuten
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Bhayshul Tuten in Round 6, Pick 12, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick211 Rnd6 CJ West
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on CJ West. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick249 Rnd7 Brady Cook
Brady Cook in pick No. 249 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
