The Broncos robbed the room for Schrader. Final grade: C+. Thirty-one other rooms let Cody Schrader slide, and the Broncos were the ones holding the card at pick No. 220. Highway robbery. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
Every board in the league had Jefferson lower, and that gap is the story. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick65
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia in the 65th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Legette in slot 76. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick103
Rnd4
Calen Bullock
A safety of that caliber at pick 103 is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick121
Rnd4
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler at Round 4, Pick 21 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick136
Rnd4
Christian Jones
A tidy little value on Christian Jones in No. 136, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick145
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in the 145th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in pick No. 203; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick207
Rnd6
Johnny Dixon
They let Johnny Dixon come to them and pounced at No. 207. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick220
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
Somehow Cody Schrader was still sitting there in the 220th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
