mcastro101 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. Somebody in the 226th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Le'Veon Moss, the No. 144 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The Card pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 11th overall pick they get an anchor for the defensive front, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in slot 43 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
You do not let a linebacker like Jihaad Campbell reach pick No. 75 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jake Majors
A clean, defensible pick in slot 99 with a little surplus value in Jake Majors. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
They reached into another round for Emery Jones Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick137
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
Value said wait; Cobee Bryant in the 137th pick says they were not listening. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick185
Rnd6
Elijah Arroyo
By-the-book stuff, Elijah Arroyo at No. 185 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick226
Rnd7
Le'Veon Moss
They will replay Le'Veon Moss at the 226th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick230
Rnd7
Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick249
Rnd7
Bru McCoy
They left a pile of value on the table to take Bru McCoy this early at pick 249. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick255
Rnd7
Hudson Card
Hudson Card at pick No. 255 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
