Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureA+
The phones sank the Broncos this weekend: D.

The Broncos put a flag in the ground for Devin Leary, 54 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while linebacker, edge rusher and other spots went begging. The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In slot 18 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
Pick76 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick102 Rnd4 Maason Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in the 102nd pick leaves linebacker, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick107 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at Round 4, Pick 7 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick120 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McKinnley Jackson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick122 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cole Bishop in the 122nd overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick144 Rnd5 Johnny Wilson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Wilson at slot 144. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick146 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
By-the-book stuff, Roger Rosengarten at No. 146 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick184 Rnd6 Jarrian Jones
They will replay Jarrian Jones at Round 6, Pick 9 for years; that is how good the value is. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick237 Rnd7 Devin Leary
Devin Leary at pick No. 237 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick238 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
No edge and no loss on Brevyn Spann-Ford in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
