Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the Steelers: C+.

You could see the war room lean forward. Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at Round 3, Pick 20 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

Milton III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A big swing on Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 20, well ahead of any board in the building. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick52 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 52 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick84 Rnd3 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 84th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick120 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in No. 120 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121 Rnd4 Joe Milton III
A wild overpay on Joe Milton III in the 121st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick198 Rnd6 Renardo Green
You do not let a safety like Renardo Green reach slot 198 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick238 Rnd7 Marcellas Dial
Marcellas Dial at pick 238 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
