FutureB-
Larceny in slot 182 lands the Patriots a B+, Henderson and all. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
Henderson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Every board in the league had Frazier lower, and that gap is the story.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In the 8th overall pick they get a mismatch in the passing game. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Bo Nix
Bo Nix at Round 2, Pick 2 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick43
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
They let Troy Fautanu come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick49
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
A tidy little value on Xavier Legette in the 49th pick, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat slipping to pick No. 66 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in No. 68 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick103
Rnd4
Audric Estime
They took Audric Estime at par in Round 4, Pick 3, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139
Rnd5
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at slot 139 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick182
Rnd6
LaDarius Henderson
Steal is underselling it; LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 182 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
The board had Sam Hartman higher than No. 196, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Miles Frazier
A reach for Miles Frazier in pick 224; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick225
Rnd7
Maurice Smith
Maurice Smith at the 225th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
