The 49ers let Campbell fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Jihaad Campbell, the No. 40 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 75th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Alexander reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
