Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it.

The Packers torched the value chart for MJ Sherman, taking him 35 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. It is not that Williams is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Wilson.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Nubin
In pick 25 they get an enforcer at safety. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick57 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in the 57th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick88 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
They read the board right and Johnny Wilson was the payoff at the 88th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick108 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 108, where Blake Fisher graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick125 Rnd4 James Williams
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, James Williams adds a safety and leaves quarterback and interior defensive lineman untouched.
Pick135 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick203 Rnd6 Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan in No. 203 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick217 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
They took Brevyn Spann-Ford at par in pick 217, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219 Rnd6 Myles Cole
They left a pile of value on the table to take Myles Cole this early at pick No. 219. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick246 Rnd7 MJ Sherman
MJ Sherman in slot 246 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
