Draft Grade — Patriots

The Patriots land in the muddy middle: C+.

Nobody else had Oluwafemi Oladejo anywhere near pick No. 106. The Patriots did, by 37 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

However the rest shakes out, Henderson at that price is a win they earned. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Hit on Armand Membou and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In pick No. 12 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins slipping to the 69th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at pick 76 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at No. 77 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick106 Rnd4 Oluwafemi Oladejo
A big swing on Oluwafemi Oladejo at slot 106, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144 Rnd5 Logan Brown
No edge and no loss on Logan Brown in pick 144; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 171 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick220 Rnd7 Thomas Fidone II
Thomas Fidone II is a better player than the 220th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick221 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
They let Caleb Ransaw come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 5. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
