Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureA
The Patriots won the night they stopped Mbow from sliding. Grade: B.

The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Marcus Mbow, the No. 49 name on the board, in pick 69.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Pegues to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 6 is lovely value for the linebacker. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
No drama and no debate, Jayden Higgins went about where he belonged in pick 49. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69 Rnd3 Marcus Mbow
You do not let an offensive lineman like Marcus Mbow reach slot 69 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jack Bech
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jack Bech at the 77th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick81 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in pick No. 81 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick106 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at No. 106 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
They paid sticker price for Tyler Shough in the 144th pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
They went early on JJ Pegues in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
