Pyper DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB-
The Patriots let Starks fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. Somebody in the 69th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Malaki Starks, the No. 27 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Reaching for Ingram-Dawkins left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In slot 4 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at the Round 2 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick69
Rnd3
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at No. 69 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick77
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant in Round 3, Pick 13 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick106
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
They liked Joshua Farmer enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 106. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
They paid sticker price for Quincy Riley in the 144th overall pick, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick171
Rnd5
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins at the 171st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jarquez Hunter
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jarquez Hunter in pick 220, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick238
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
The board fumbled Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
