Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Patriots this weekend: D-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Patriots took Bilhal Kone at the 144th pick, roughly 95 spots before his name belonged. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On value alone, Gadsden II makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Travis Hunter
In pick 4 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
Pick38 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Fair-plus on Josh Conerly Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jack Sawyer
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jack Sawyer at the 69th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at No. 77 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick106 Rnd4 Kyle Williams
They talked themselves into Kyle Williams at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick107 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
A straight-up fair deal on Anthony Belton at pick No. 107, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126 Rnd4 RJ Harvey
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on RJ Harvey. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick144 Rnd5 Bilhal Kone
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bilhal Kone. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick171 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A reach on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 171; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick179 Rnd6 Kain Medrano
Kain Medrano in slot 179 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick192 Rnd6 Drew Kendall
By-the-book stuff, Drew Kendall at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200 Rnd6 Jalen McLeod
A conviction pick on Jalen McLeod at the 200th pick that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick216 Rnd6 Mac McWilliams
A big swing on Mac McWilliams at the 216th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick220 Rnd7 Oronde Gadsden II
Taking Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 220 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238 Rnd7 Brady Cook
Brady Cook in the 238th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
