The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on White III: A-.

The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Ricky White III, the No. 206 name on the board, sitting there at the 255th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Smith reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

In the end it comes back to Kenneth Grant, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
