Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureC
The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D-.

The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Tyler Loop at the 232nd overall pick regardless, 84 picks early. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Jackson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In pick No. 11 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at Round 2, Pick 11 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick57 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
They did well to land Marcus Mbow in slot 57, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75 Rnd3 Denzel Burke
A conviction pick on Denzel Burke at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jake Majors
Jake Majors in the 99th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick108 Rnd4 Jackson Slater
Value said wait; Jackson Slater in pick 108 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112 Rnd4 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in pick 112 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick131 Rnd4 Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at slot 131 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick136 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
By-the-book stuff, Rylie Mills at pick No. 136 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Circle this one: Kevin Winston Jr. at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick139 Rnd4 Ajani Cornelius
The board fumbled Ajani Cornelius all the way to the 139th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick153 Rnd5 Kyren Lacy
Somehow Kyren Lacy was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 14, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick189 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
No drama and no debate, JJ Pegues went about where he belonged in the 189th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick228 Rnd7 Ja'Quinden Jackson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ja'Quinden Jackson in No. 228, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick232 Rnd7 Tyler Loop
A big swing on Tyler Loop at No. 232, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick244 Rnd7 Antwane Wells Jr.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 244th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ty Hamilton in the 255th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
