Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers answered their biggest question with McCarthy. Grade: B-.

Start where it matters. The 49ers took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hadden. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Every board in the league had Holker lower, and that gap is the story. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at the 31st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick63 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at pick 63 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
A conviction pick on Zak Zinter at No. 94 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick124 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
The board had cheaper options than Roger Rosengarten at the 124th pick, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 31: Elijah Jones for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick133 Rnd4 Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker in slot 133 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick176 Rnd6 Khristian Boyd
No drama and no debate, Khristian Boyd went about where he belonged in pick No. 176. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
The board fumbled Kamal Hadden all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Somehow Cornelius Johnson was still sitting there in pick No. 215, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick251 Rnd7 Jalen Sundell
They did well to land Jalen Sundell in the 251st pick, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
