Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
C+

FutureB-
The 49ers land in the muddy middle: C+. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jalin Conyers at pick No. 252 is 130 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The Felton value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Hit on Jihaad Campbell and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Jihaad Campbell
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Derrick Harmon in the 43rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at slot 75 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick100
Rnd3
Charles Grant
The board had Charles Grant higher than the 100th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick113
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Tai Felton in pick 113 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at No. 138 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick147
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on O'Donnell Fortune. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick160
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in Round 5, Pick 22 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
They reached a country mile for Zeek Biggers at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249
Rnd7
Nick Martin
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nick Martin in the 249th overall pick, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jalin Conyers
Jalin Conyers at pick 252 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
