tt DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB-
The 49ers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The 49ers spent real capital to be 54 picks early on Marcus Harris, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lachey. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In pick 11 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jared Ivey
A big swing on Jared Ivey at the 43rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
They paid sticker price for Maxwell Hairston in Round 3, Pick 11, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick100
Rnd3
Charles Grant
They did well to land Charles Grant in the 100th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
A tidy bit of business in slot 113, where Jaylin Noel graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd4
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton in No. 138 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick147
Rnd5
Nazir Stackhouse
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nazir Stackhouse this early at pick No. 147. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick187
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in Round 6, Pick 11 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick226
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Somehow Luke Lachey was still sitting there in the 226th overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick230
Rnd7
Kitan Crawford
By-the-book stuff, Kitan Crawford at slot 230 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick249
Rnd7
Marcus Harris
This one needs a full-page explanation: Marcus Harris in the 249th pick, miles early. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jaylin Lane
Jaylin Lane at No. 252 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
