Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Bryce Foster at the 66th overall pick, a reach of 100 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. With running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In pick 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31 Rnd1 Jabbar Muhammad
In No. 31 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. More want than need.
Pick34 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in the 34th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Rod Moore
By-the-book stuff, Rod Moore at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick66 Rnd3 Bryce Foster
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bryce Foster. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick95 Rnd3 Tommi Hill
A want over a need in slot 95: Tommi Hill adds a cornerback while running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick97 Rnd4 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at Round 4, Pick 1 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
A real head-scratcher, Jared Wilson in pick 127 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick159 Rnd5 Moose Muhammad III
A straight-up fair deal on Moose Muhammad III at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick191 Rnd6 Noah Thomas
They took Noah Thomas at par in the 191st pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223 Rnd7 Gerald Mincey
A slide stopped in slot 223, with Gerald Mincey worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
