The rest of the league had time to spare on Antwaun Powell-Ryland; the 49ers did not wait, grabbing him 37 spots ahead at the 215th pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
