Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers let Bullard fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Javon Bullard slide 34 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

It is not that Carson is a bad player; it is that the 49ers had louder needs to answer first. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Mike Sainristil
A straight-up fair deal on Mike Sainristil at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick94 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in slot 94 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick98 Rnd3 Caelen Carson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Caelen Carson at cornerback with running back, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick125 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
A tidy little value on Tyler Davis in No. 125, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick132 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
They let McKinnley Jackson come to them and pounced at the 132nd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
A premium they did not need to pay, Cornelius Johnson a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick209 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
The board had Joe Milton III higher than pick No. 209, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214 Rnd6 Erick All
Fair-plus on Erick All, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor at the 215th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jordan Whittington
Jordan Whittington in pick No. 249 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
